Another good podcast for Japanese immersion listening is “にほんごザッツ談”. The Japanese spoken on this podcast is at an intermediate to advanced level. Tatsuya and his wife, Chiyoshi, have casual conversations about a variety of topics. Tatsuya teaches Japanese on iTalki, and started this podcast as another way to help Japanese learners.
“にほんごザッツ談” loosely translated is “Nihongo That's Talk”. (談) is pronounced (だん), and means “talk” or “discuss” in Japanese. This podcast was started in May of 2019, and it looks like they publish about 4 episodes each month. They are up to podcast #200 at this time, and each episode averages 5 to 10 minutes, or a few minutes longer.
I am more inclined to go to their website and read the transcripts at this point. I am studying kanji, and really like the reading practice that the Japanese transcripts provide. In addition, I would rather read than listen because the first episodes of the podcast are slightly annoying for me. Especially the first episode. It sounds like they are in bed, under the blankets, whispering so that they don’t wake up the kids at night. Add in Chiyoshi’s nervous laughter and childlike voice imitations; and the sound of the podcast is not something that I like to listen to. I don’t know why, but it reminds me of ASMR. I don’t like ASMR, especially the whispering. Don’t worry though, I skipped ahead to episode #101 from January of 2021, and it is much better. They speak at a ‘normal’ volume, and don’t sound like they are hiding under the blankets anymore.
I probably wouldn't do any better on a podcast myself. Tatsuya and Chiyoshi interact well with each other, are very comfortable with each other, and have some great conversations because of it. They also have a YouTube channel where they post videos about living in Japan, and teaching Japanese. Check it out, they could use a few more subscribers.
